Resetting your BigPond ADSL name and password

Follow these steps

1

Go to bigpond.com

2

Go to My Bigpond / My Account

3

Enter your <username>@bigpond.net.au (or maybe <username>@bigpond.com)

4

Enter your password

5

Choose Change Username

6

Choose Edit user / password

7

Put in your new name
Note that things can be difficult now so watch the response from Bigpond. You can try anything you like, providing it has letters and maybe numbers and is no more than 8 characters total (sometimes you are allowed more than 8). You type it in, then submit it, then it either accepts or rejects it and around you go again. Have a few variations worked out. Sometimes you get your first choice, most times you don’t. It’s worth choosing a good name and then keeping it; you don’t want to change it too often. Finally Bigpond will say OK and accept one!!

8

Now change your password to something simple, letters and numbers. Same thing, submit and it will accept nearly anything you type.

9

Logout of Bigpond. Write down the new settings - BigPond supplies a notebook.

10

If you do this and all is working well at Bigpond, the next bit will work OK (sometimes the update at BigPond can take up to 30 minutes, especially in the weekend). You now must reset your modem, which is still logged in as your old name and password.

11

Depending on the modem you can reset the Name and password in the modem either using a IP address eg. 10.1.1.1 for a D-Link, or use the install disc that came with the modem which should offer the Change Username option.

12

Save and reboot the modem and it should relog ADSL, using the new name and password. If all is well you will be able to browse but not use your mail.

13

Reset your ID and password in Outlook Express.
